Frankly, we were all a little bit pooped. Minuk and Dita went on a shopping expedition after lunch, so i took the opportunity for a walk through the Stewart Ravine, accessed from a park about 100m from our front door. It is quite remarkable. one minute, you are in a manicured park, with benches and flowerbeds and neat lawns, and the next you are on a wooden walkway, either side of which rise steep slopes, cloaked in undergrowth, above which rise huge mature red oak trees, up to 50m high,
At the top of the slope, normal suburban houses back onto the ravine, but you could hardly believe that, in here, there is a city of 5 million people only 100m away.

The surrounding streets are filled with the most elaborate and opulent homes. The area backing on to the ravine is one of the most desirable pieces of real estate in The Beaches, and right up there with the rest of Toronto's most desirable, Homes sell for well in excess of 1 million dollars. In contrast, most of the streets of The Beaches are lines with elegant balconied but significantly smaller, duplexes. It is a most attractive area, just 15 km from the centre, and well served by streetcars along Queen Street East..

In the evening, a large group of Ooq & Dita's friends, including a neighbour from Rawamangun in Jakarta, came around for a pre-Canada day BBQ dinner. Ooq prepared marinated steaks on the BBQ grill, Minuk made a salad whilst other guests brought their own specialties, including samosas and a delicious mango salad.
We went out for a walk to the beach during the evening, and have now given up on finding any sign of raccoons in the wild. Later I accompanied Ooq on the long drive to drop off some guests at their home in York Mills, about 25km to the north. We tumbled to bed pretty tired afterwards
